Numbers from the earliest times are considered as the main point of harmony and as elements of the special code that can be used to describe the world, man and system. Numbers - that is as image of the world and a key to its secret algorithms. Adherence to numbers gives knowledge of basics of everything existing, numbers existed always and many scientists consider exactly discovery of them and touch to its mystery as a greatest luck of humanity. It can be contended that using of special numbers in the story is a way to express and accent concrete notional aspects. Numbers in that case plays a part of a prop that is a foundation for normalization of rules of describing part of the system.

Seven days in a week, seven notes, seven chakras on a human's body, seven deadly sins, seven-days moon phases, seven colors of a rainbow, Seven Wonders of the World, Seven Pillars of Wisdom.
Seven - is a symbol of the cosmic and spiritual order, wisdom and universal knowledge, symbol of luck, self-sufficiency and presence of highest spirit in a physical body. Seven is a number of perfection. That number was given to the Game not by accident. Not by accident this number is being repeated both in the story ("Seventh Heaven", seven Squares in The Gold Saucer, Seventh Sector as a turning point, seven days remained before the Meteor fall-off after the story is over, Tifa twice loses her consciousness for seven days, Tifa says that she haven't seen Cloud for seven years before the events of the Game, Aerith met Zack seven years ago etc) and particularly game events (All Seven Fever; when the Game begins Cloud has level 7 etc). This number as if raised to the rank of the talisman of the Game. Moreover, psychologists supposes that number 7 reflects the value of human's short memory - it is connected with brain capacity and numbers divisible to it are optimal value for the time and dosage for perception of information.
:: 3 Three Moirae - masters of fate, three Erinyes - goddesses of anger, three heads of Cerberus, three spheres of the Universe, three available space dimensions, Trinity.
Three is a symbol of three steps of union being (creation, existence, destruction) and perfect triumvirate of a soul. It is considered that the most successful group to solve some task is a group of three people. Appearance of three spirits as incarnation of one essence - Sephiroth, in AC sends us to the symbol of trinity, showing to viewers the idea of reunion long before this word was pronounced. Also the number of Sephiroth's spirits in AC refers us to the three chains that were used by Aesir to shackle Fenrir. In the Game we meet three Cait Siths and again there is one man behind them.
:: 4 Four seasons, four cardinal directions, four pillars of the volt of heaven, four protoelements, four basic winds, four virtues.
Four is a symbol of solidity, solidarity, justice, relativity and order. Square, as a personification of four symbolizes Earth as a planet and Earth as habitant. Circle inscribed into square (Round Square in Gold Saucer) that is symbol of success and luck. Square inscribed into square (Shin-Ra logo) - symbol of imperishable constancy and eternity. Four also metaphorically encodes loyalty and reliability - there are four of the Turks and this number as if emphasizes their credo and makes unnecessary detailed and long descriptions about what is "Spirit of the Turks".

Five human's senses, five musical tones, five taste feelings, five basic colors of specter, five proto-essences.
Five is a sacred number, legislative number underlying rules of nature and symbolizing living beginning. Pentagram as a legislative sign originally was drawn on the seal of King Solomon and since that time is a metaphoric sign of protection and patronage. The most powerful protective pentagram: a Tree of Life and four branches or a sovereign and four guards - Rufus and Turks. Notable that we see them together only one time when the Story has already finished - it intensifies impression of their united power and abilities. Aerith's church - one of the key places in The Game - located in 5th Sector. The number five in that case underscores the power of animate nature bursting through the mountain of artificial conglomerations.
:: 8 Eight precious things in Buddhism, eight angels holding sky throneÅ Eight is a symbol of creation and protection (not by chance there is an octogram on NATO's emblem - the Gnostic sign of creation of the world).
Also eight is the symbol of prosperity and welfare. Midgar, consisting of eight sectors, by itself is a symbol of prosperity in its world and eight only confirms its might adding this assertion to many other exalted comments about Midgar. Eight sectors in combination with place-name Midgar gives us a notion about "a world inside a world" - about size, scale and meaning of megapolis for the rest of the world. Besides that eight is a symbol of eternity: Midgar stands even after five hundreds years, went through terrorist acts, attack of the Weapon and Meteor.
:: 9 Nine cat's lives, nine openings in human's body, nine months of pregnancy, nine vices and nine circles of Hell by their number.
Nine symbolizes everything that is connected with the lowest, physical human nature and also is the sign of energy, aggression, destruction and war. Cloud party includes nine members, and there are a lot of acts of destruction under their belt. Nine underlines party's line of work as if indicating its initial stupidity, incomprehension and aggression springing from this. As the events develops party members rises higher their vanities, mistakes and insults, solves their local problems - and there are remains only eight of them because of Aerith's death. They become protectors of the Planet, corresponding to the symbol of their new number.
:: 12 Twelve months in a year, twelve Zodiac signs, twelve hours in a clocks face, twelve parts of original Compass rose.
That is why this number was traditionally used to denote "chosen ones", "privy ones". Twelve Knights of the Round Table, Twelve Tribes of Israel, twelve members of College of Lictors in ancient Rome. Set of a twelve statuettes of SOLDIER's members - probably by the quantity of those who made 1st Class. Twelve numbered "copies" of Sephiroth in the Game - twelve witnesses of Nibelheim tragedy who will never tell the truth about the destiny of their city.
:: 13 Number thirteen stays apart and because of this it received a status of the most mysterious number, as if "another" number that you can not evaluate with usual measures. Thirteen symbolizes isolation, separation, loneliness. Nanaki - Red XIII - is not man and is not spirit; his number underscores impossibility to put him in one row with numbered Hojo victims. Also Nanaki remains last representative of his clan and at the time of the Game events continuation of his kind looks impossible. He is the thirteenth one, lonely and detached, seeking someone the same as him. It is interesting that in fact there were 13 “copies” mention above: 12 inhabitants of Nibelheim and Cloud who did not get a number. This idea about the fact that privity and selectness leads after themselves loneliness can be continued by the fact that probably there were also 13 SOLDIER 1st Class: 12 soldiers who performed their duties and the new president of the company. Rufus's abilities, the fact of presence of Geostigma on his body, his skill of managing military operations allows to suppose that he also belonged to SOLDIER.
In that way we see that numbers that are used or mentioned in FFVII - not random set of signs but thought-out regular part of the Story. Every from chosen numbers carries inside itself a stable meaning starting from notions mentioned once and finishing with seven dominated in the Story.
